Friday Nights Revisited at The Bowgie - It's Time to 'Get Down'!!

In an interview with Esquire magazine earlier this month, Rock legend Gene Simmons declared in a bold proclamation that “rock is finally dead”. A controversial statement given the talk of British rock music making a comeback with the likes of Royal Blood, Bring Me The Horizon and You Me At Six.

However, one place that can still boast a diverse mix of music in our very own County is the Bowgie Inn, with a variety of live acts satisfying every musical taste and making for a feast of new sounds to invoke the senses in stunning surroundings.

Inspired by everything from Blues, Funk, Folk, Heavy Metal, Indie Rock and much more, there’s no stone left unturned when it comes to exploring new and old musical talent.

On October 3, the Bowgie Inn Crantock is hosting ‘Bowgie Friday Nights Revisited’ in aid of Cornwall Hospice Care (CHC). The charity has benefited greatly from the Bowgie’s fundraising efforts in recent years such as the annual Ale Festival in August which raised nearly £3,000. The evening will be a celebration of music all for a good cause.

And it doesn’t stop there: Sally Pickles, Owner and Manager at The Bowgie, is gearing up for her trek to Mount Kilimanjaro to raise even more money for the charity!

Friday Nights Revisited is all about reliving those years at The Bowgie when you could drink Tuborg Gold all night long, dream of owning a VW camper, or an original Beetle, when ripped jeans were first in fashion (before they became retro), and the Bowgie “Night Club” (as it was known back then), had Red Velvet curtains and Turbo Sound Speakers to Belt out the tunes.

While the dress code was anything goes, especially wife-beaters and converse, champion surfers and celebrities frequented this cool weekly ritual, as buses came from Bodmin, people hitched from Aggie, and others staggered from Crantock.

Each Friday would be followed by tales of crazy journeys home, escapades on the beach, watching Endless Summer on a VHS tape, or listening to cassettes in the car, before mobile phones, Snapchat, and Facebook e.g. when being in the moment was all that mattered.

DJ Mark Milburn, aka DJ Doodlebug, has been a well known face in Cornwall's clubs since the 1970s and will be playing alongside bands inspired by some of the finest acts of all time including Nirvana, Metallica, Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, Levellers, Rage Against The Machine and many more.

A £5 donation for CHC will be gratefully received on entry, expect the bar to be well stocked with Tequila, Jack Daniels and Jeigerbombs!

Kick off the first weekend of October in style. Doors open at 9pm - this night is guaranteed to rock your world. Check the Bowgie’s Facebook page for more info.

We can't wait to see you there!!

The Bowgie Celebrates Best Ale Festival Yet!

August Bank Holiday saw The Bowgie Inn’s annual Ale Festival raise nearly £3,000 for Cornwall Hospice Care.

Through the selling of Ale Festival Souvenir glasses, t-shirts, face painting, and 10p from every pint of Ale sold being donated, the pink pub has once again demonstrated its fundraising efforts, whilst having plenty of fun along the way.

Despite many labeling the Bank Holiday as a wash-out, the Bowgie Inn was packed full of happy customers, eagerly anticipating live performances from the likes of Shine, Cool as ****, and Idle Hands to name but a few. Spirits were anything but dampened with over 40 Ales and Ciders from some of the UK’s finest Breweries, even if partiality to Cornish staples were a given. All soaked up by traditional pasties, if someone mentioned there was a chill in the air, those at The Bowgie, would have been forgiven for thinking otherwise.

As one of the many bands to headline, Shine’s outstanding set was made even more exceptional, given it was the last for the band’s vocalist; Ronnie Nose, who will be retiring from the stage.

The money raised by the Ale Festival for Cornwall Hospice Care is just part of the fundraising efforts by The Bowgie, with Owner and Manager Sally Pickles’s trek to Mount Kilimanjaro later this month:

We didn’t think we could top last year, but the Ale Festival 2014 was the best yet, and I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along and to those who donated. My trek is coming up soon and anyone who’d like to support, can, at the Bowgie or on my Just Giving page”.

Summer may soon be drawing to a close, but the Bowgie’s entertainment is just hotting up, and with many more live acts to be announced for the autumn months, festival season continues at the famous pink pub on the West Pentire Headland, Newquay.
